Tabula Rasa: cleansing, centering and integrating

ta·bu·la ra·sa
ˈtäbyo͝olə ˈräsə,ˈräzə/
noun
  1. an absence of preconceived ideas or predetermined goals; a clean slate.
“the team did not have complete freedom and a tabula rasa from which to work”
    • the human mind, especially at birth, viewed as having no innate ideas.

Sometimes, in order to stand in our power, we have to wipe the slate clean. We have to start over, and have the courage to let go of what needs releasing.

There is a beautiful dual current that shows up during this time of year. One one side we have the celebration, the joy, the giving and receiving. On the other we have the dying, the darkness, and the emotional struggle that often also arises. This beautiful duality is a powerful teacher. It gives us contrast that creates growth, and it offers us possibility.

Wiping the slate clean takes work. It’s a process. Not everything gets wiped away with ease. The hardest part is starting, making the commitment to show up to whatever process of cleansing works best for you. This is a great time of the year to open, to engage, to begin. What’s holding you back from stepping into your power? What’s creating stagnation in your current experience? What do you need to do in this moment to begin healing?

Cleansing can take many forms. Sometimes we have to start with our physical spaces. De-cluttering our lives of unnecessary “things”, donating them to those in need, examining our attachments are all important. Sometimes it means taking the broom the the floors, putting hands in dishwater, organizing a workspace.

We may feel the call to cleanse the body. Taking a warm bath. Moving the body through dance, yoga, going for a walk–building body heat and sweat. It may mean changing out diets to be more nutritious.

We may feel the need to cleanse the inner temple. Meditating, engaging in energy healing, breathing deeply, and journaling are ways to bring balance and awareness to the inner space.

The missing piece of the puzzle is integration. Once we begin the process of cleansing mind, body, and spirit energy begins to move. How you integrate into life after the cleansing phase is just as important as the process of cleansing. Being at center, is being fully integrated.

In the next few weeks, we’ll be diving deeper into cleansing processes. We’ll also discuss how to integrate after the changes. The path of full integration is not an easy one, but it is necessary.

Take time to feel where you are in your body. Take a moment to bring awareness to your inner and outer spaces. Breathe deeply. Know that you are loved.

Radio Show, Leaning Into Joy, and Loving the Flow

Tonight at 9pm, we’ll be re-launching our online BlogTalk Radio show, “Soul Empowerment Radio”!  We took a bit of a hiatus for travel, getting out into the world, and diving a bit into the soul journey. I’m excited to be on air again. Technology often gets a pretty bad rap, but if we can use this platform to connect, to deepen our connection to the journey, and to offer healing to the world then it’s a good thing!  My hope is to go LIVE Monday – Friday at 9pm EST. Each episode will start with a discussion and soul centered dialog followed by a guided meditation. I’ll also be opening up the lines for FREE on air mini-readings and healing sessions.  We are also working on inviting on guests, doing book reviews, and opening to community in whatever way we can!

Here is a link to join in tonight! Soul Empowerment Radio

Leaning Into Joy

joyIt’s been an incredible few months. Weather changes have bombarded our coasts, upheaval seems to be a constant trend in our media, and life for many has become heavy. It’s okay to feel whatever it is that you are feeling. You are human. It’s okay to feel the pain and the weight of the world. Taking steps toward joy can be difficult in times of global or personal upheaval. Joy is often elusive when we feel the weight of life on our shoulders, but we have to remember that taking steps toward joy gives us a chance to feel freedom, even in our chaos.

Joy isn’t meant to be used as an escape from what we are experiencing. We don’t want to use joy as a mechanism of suppression. Joy gives us access to perspective, balance, and understanding. When we over identify with our suffering, we do so at the risk of excluding other areas of life. Sometimes we have to make leaning into joy a conscious act. Here are a few steps to lean into joy when you might be experiencing upheaval:

  1. Find time to laugh. Laughter really is the best medicine.
  2. Take time to express gratitude. Now, this is different from just writing down the things you’re grateful for (which is also a powerful practice). Expressing gratitude through action allows us to participate in sharing joy. A few ways to express gratitude are: saying thank you to those that serve you in a restaurant, offering to do the daily chores, helping others in need, being in service to those around you in whatever ways feels best.
  3. Journaling. Journaling allows us to detox the mind. Creating a pressure valve for our minds allows us to have a bit more space in our life for joy.
  4. Do something silly. Color in a coloring book, play with play dough, paint, run through the sprinklers, have fun!
  5. Eat delicious food.
  6. Listen to poetry
  7. Talk a walk outside and experience nature (not just on your screen saver).

Loving the Flow

Finding balance in life allows us to move a bit deeper into the flow. It helps us to be in the experience of life, it allows us to feel this moment a bit more deeply. Life is going to come with its up and downs, it may even take you sideways, and that’s okay. It’s part of the flow. Joy is part of the flow. Love is part of the flow. Even if things feel heavy right now, know that you are moving, just as the breath is moving through your lungs. Live deeply, love deeply, be present.

Advanced Reiki: Energetic Space Clearing

reiki51Reiki is one of my passions. I love how beautifully subtle can be, but also the amount of power that it brings to any given number of situations. Reiki is easy to learn and easy to do for yourself and for others. I thought it’d be great to start a series of posts to look at ways we can take our Reiki practice to a deeper level. Reiki is more than just a healing technique. I’ll be referring to Reiki specifically in these posts, but much of what I’ll be sharing may apply to other energy healing modalities and forms. Use your discernment to decide if this is something that resonates with you, and feel free to apply the information in the best way that works for your style of healing. There really are no right or wrong ways to go about doing this. What I am going to give you here are a couple of methods that I have used personally and have found them effective for my personal use, and I’ve also had positive feedback from clients that have also used these techniques. Use what feels right, leave the rest, and use this to formulate your own methodology.
There are many reasons why you might feel drawn to energetically cleansing your physical space. It might be a new home, or you may have had arguments in the space, you might feel an uneasy unseen presence, or it might just be a part of a routine that you follow based on your spiritual tradition. Many use sage or incense at their primary method of cleansing a space, this act is called smudging. Adding Reiki into this process is fairly easy and will bump up the effectiveness of the technique that you are us using. Smudging is powerful in that it allows us to engage all of the senses in the act of cleansing the space: our eyes see the smoke, we can smell it, we can feel the heat off the tip of the sage or incense stick, we move around the space with it, etc. To move Reiki into the equation you only need to add the intention that Reiki is also moving, and since Reiki moves primarily through touch, whatever you are holding as your instrument of cleansing will become the conduit through which Reiki will enter the space. The Reiki energy becomes infused in the smoke, the scent and the actions you are taking to cleanse the space.

If you do not use sage or incense you can still easily use Reiki to effectively energetically cleanse a physical space. There are a couple of ways that I feel work best. First you can find the center point of the space you are cleansing. Use your intuition, walk around the space, stop where it feels you are at the energetic center of the space. This might not be the physical center of the space. In a home for instance, family gatherings may happen in the kitchen, an in that home love is centered on the kitchen, so it might present as the energetic center of the some. Don’t over think it, or over analyze it. Go with what feels right, trust your healing ability and trust your intuition. Stand in the energetic center, and begin by stating your intention for wanting to do the cleansing (to bring more peace, to bring balance, to fill with love and light, etc). After you set your intention, being to radiate Reiki to the space. You can touch the floor in that spot of the home, touch a wall, or touch your heart center. Since you are standing or sitting at the center of the home, the Reiki will move through you and into the floor, thus filling the space with this beautiful healing energy. There is no right or wrong amount of time, trust your intuition… you start, and stop when it feels right.

Another method is to walk around the space, touch the walls, windows, floors, and give the space an actual Reiki treatment. You can touch the walls in a room, you can touch the perimeter of the property, furniture etc. Wherever you feel called to give energy you give in. In essence you become a walking pendulum, and you are using your body to locate where there might be a need to offer Reiki to the space.

These are just a few methods that you can use to clear a space with Reiki. In later posts I’ll go into more detail about using it to clear entities, ghosts, and negative energy. Just remember to trust your intuition in any given situation. Do what feels right, and you will keep to the highest intent and good for all involved.

Have you ever used Reiki to clear a space? What methods worked for you?

Do you have questions about space clearing, or about using Reiki to clear a space? Post them below.

You are loved. You are Beautiful. You are Divine.

The power of sacred silence

“silence is the language of god,
all else is poor translation.” – Rumi

Inhale deeply.

Now release it.

Be present in this moment.

Silence is powerful.  What do you hear in the silence?  Take a moment to breathe this in.  Don’t reach for it, let it come to you.

When is the last time you unplugged from everything.  Turn the phone off.  Turn off the computer. Take a breath, and have a seat.

What does silence sound like?

“Silence is an empty space, space is the home of the awakened mind.” – Buddha

There is power in silence.  We are able to take in more of the landscape. Life slows down a bit. We are able to bring awareness to the present moment.  We are able to arrive.

Silence allows us to be okay with the chaos of life.  It is the space between each in breath, and out breath.

Words are not always necessary to convey the message of our soul. The next time you are with a friend, a lover, a family member, or every a companion animal–sit with them in deep silence.  Take them in.  Look deep into their eyes.  Let the heart and soul speak through the language of silence.  You’ll be surprised at how much more of that individual you see.

Now do this in the mirror.  The silence allows us to see, and to be seen.

If you are finding that you are more in distraction throughout your day, than in connection… take a silence break. Go outside, touch the earth, feel the sky above you, breath it all in.  No reactions, just observe.  Stay with the breath, return to the breath if you need to. Be present.

You. Are. Loved.

Stepping into 2015: Release, Power, and Love

As 2014 draws to a close, I feel the call to set some intentions for 2015.  2014 was a year of release for me.  My intuition and my soul have been taking me deeper into my life, and onto my path.  This has been a year of release.  In order to move forward we often have to let go of the anchors that keep us bound to a past that is no longer ours.  Detoxing the mind, the body, and spirit allow us to have clarity without it being through the lens of our past.  There are still things I am working on releasing, but I’ve learned never to rush this process.  Moving with grace and kindness allows for deeper growth to occur.  When we are able to take ownership and responsibility for our lives in profound ways.  What do you need to release as you move into 2015?  What lens of your past are you filtering your present through?

I realized that by taking responsibility of my past, I am able to stand in power.  Owning my difficult parts as well as my beautiful parts allow me to be whole.  Journaling has really helped me to gain perspective on my life.  If you are not journaling, i would recommend that you set the intention to make journaling a part of 2015.  Journaling is tangible.  The journal becomes the altar deep-breathto our soul.  Write down whatever makes you shine from the inside out.  I love to include quotes, prayers, passages from sacred texts, pictures, and things that inspire me.  By carrying my journal with me, I feed it my life-force.  I give it life.  The journal is a living extension of my being.

Love is powerful.  Learning to love through the chaos of existence has not always been the easiest of tasks.  I’ve had my share of challenges this year.  Relationships and friendships were challenged, some survived, and others did not. I’ve learned to hold the pain and the joy in the space of love.  Even with people leave my life, I’ve never put the out of my heart.  Learning to hold even our enemies in the light of love is powerful. It releases us from the binds they might have over us, and it lets us be whole.  Taking responsibility for our lives is empowering.  This allows us to forgive ourselves.  When we can offer forgiveness to our past, to those that have brought us the lessons, and to the current moment we are able to be liberated.

As I move into 2015, I am setting some clear intentions and goals.  I feel it is time to make a lot of changes.  Making a public declaration of these intentions allows me to hold myself accountable to them.  What intentions are you setting for the new year?  What goals are you going to try to manifest for the upcoming year? Write them down, put them in your journal, and carry them with you, take them out often and look at them, breath them in, and live them.

Here are my 2015 intentions:

  1. Its time to be a raw vegan.  I’ve done this in short spurts, but now it is time to make the transition.  Cleaning up my diet, my life, and my connection to the food I am putting into my body is necessary this year.
  2. 365 days of yoga and meditation.  I need to take my personal practice to a new level. I need to live my yoga this year in a new way.
  3. Finish my book.  I’ve stutter started and stopped this for way to long.  This is the year that the book comes to life.  Stay tuned.
  4. How I do my sessions is changing.  I am expanding and letting go.  Opening to new ways of doing things, and coming back to the reasons why I started this work in the first place.
  5. Im pulling back from social media.  I am making social media outlets a place to expand the soul, and open to deeper consciousness.  Rather than just sharing what others have done, I am going to make a conscious effort to transmit the words and works of my soul.
  6. Travel, travel, travel.  I am looking to make 2015 a year of getting out into the world to meet other seekers.  I want to visit ashrams, spiritual communities, and festivals.  Still planning things out, but as soon as things firm up, I’ll be posting them here.
  7. Youtube, blogtak, and this blog are going to blossoming this year.  I am going to engage my platform in new ways this year.  You’ll want to stay tuned.  I plan on doing weekly videos, weekly posts, and of course the radio show.  This is exciting and I look forward to brining this to all of you.
  8. 365 days of poetry.  The poet in me has been asleep for a while, and now I feel it’s time to process some of the life lessons through poetry.  I hope to release my chap book mid year.  I’ll be posting poems to this blog.

These are just a few of my intentions for the year.  There are others that are more personal, but these are just a few that I felt would be appropriate to share on this blog.  I’ve learned a lot about myself this past year, and I look forward to what 2015 brings.

What are your goals and intentions for 2015?

May you be blessed in light as you move forward.  May the light of your soul radiate like the sun.

You are loved. You are Beautiful. You are Divine.

Mike.

The Gay Soul: Starting the Journey to Healing

gay flagOver the past few weeks, my soul has been guiding me to direct energy and time to addressing many of the wounds in our community.  After meditating on this, I thought it would be great to begin a series of blog posts to address what I feel are topics that need attention in our community.  My soul has been nudging me, and here we begin the journey.  I thought I’d take a bit of time to address what this journey is going to look like, and some of the topics that I’ll be giving attention to.

There are deep wounds in our community.  Some of them are more overt, and many of them are subtle.  I hope that these posts will create dialog, and community conversation.  I am going to be addressing this a bit differently than I’ve seen in other blogs, books, and media.  Most of what I will be addressing will be channeled directly from my higher self.  I will post questions, and allow for the transmission of that information to be captured in the responses in these posts.  That being said, if you feel there are questions you’d like me to address in this blog, feel free to email them to me directly at Michael@michaelbrazell.com.

As a community we are making many changes, and those changes are happening at lightening speed.  Equality is at the forefront of many of our conversations and this is a beautiful thing.  As we move forward, we need to take a moment to address the deeper healing that is needed within ourselves and in our community at large.  We cannot let our move to gain acceptance cause us to lose that beautiful thing that makes us different.  Much of what I will address in these blog posts will pertain to men who love men.  I can only speak with honesty to the issues that I face as a gay man and the way that impacts my spiritual journey and vice versa.  This is not to minimize the fact that healing is needed in the other areas of LGBTQ culture, it is my hope that this series inspires others to also begin looking at their spiritual walks, and how those walks feed their spirituality as individuals and community.

I also intend to offer resources, and practical spiritual methods to address the various issues we come face to face with as men who love men.  Too often we get caught up in talking about our traumas, vices, and wounds without action steps to generate healing.  I am also going to offer book reviews, and resource lists to help move the conversation forward.

Some of the issues that I’ll be addressing in the coming weeks in relation to men who love men and our community:

  • shame
  • vulnerability
  • sex
  • homophobia
  • masculine and feminine polarities
  • community wounds and traumas
  • individual wounds and traumas
  • leadership
  • love

These are just a few topics, and my soul has been clear on the necessity of getting this information out.  I am also going to be starting an online discussion group to facilitate community dialog regarding the topics I’ll be addressing.  If you’d like to join the group, feel free to send me a message via facebook: www.facebook.com/soulintuitive

Weekly Soul Update: 10/6/2014

The world is still turning, and life is still moving.

One of the struggles may of us face as healers is wondering what we can do when the world is in crisis.  The following are some tips that you can use to engage the energy through proactive means:

  • Pray.  Centering on receptive prayer allows us to connect to our soul, to God, to the divine.  We sometimes forget this simple, yet ancient practice of connecting to a higher power.
  • Meditate.  Sit, find silence, and be at peace.  When we are at peace and in presence as individuals we begin to radiate that to the world around us.
  • Stay informed. Many of us might want to turn off the news, but being and informed healer allows you to direct your energy to those in need in a specific way.  Those suffering from illness, from the impact of war, and from the isolation these divides cause need your energy.
  • Activate healing modalities.  Send light, send Reiki, use your skills to send healing to locations, people, and events in the world.  You are NOT helpless.

These are just a few ways that you can engage the world around you, there are countless ways to step into personal power and to effect change.  Take small moments each day to tune into your intuition, to ask what you can to do change the world… then do it!

Updates:

-I’m still working on updating my website.  Taking a bit longer than expected, but I will be adding new services, which is going to be pretty amazing.  Stay tuned.

I don’t need you in my life, I want you there

relationshipsOver the years, I’ve done a LOT of relationship readings.  They are my least favorite type of reading to do.  I do feel that there is value in asking for guidance in our romantic connections, but many of the questions I am asked could be answered if couples learned to communicate more.  I’m going to share here a few insights that I have received through these sessions.  This it by no means a full list, but an invitation to take a look at your experience.  Each day, we are able to step more fully into our connections.  Not everyday is going to be wonderful, but there are things that we can to do connect, to be present and to love more deeply.

  • You should not “need” your partner in your life, you should “want” them there.  Too often we surrender out our personal power to our loved ones. We make them responsible for our happiness, our security, and sometimes a sense of self-worth.  When we need them as if they are the air we breath (which may sound romantic) we are placing a dangerous responsibility on them.  Wanting someone to be in your life with you is an invitation.  When you want to share that space of love and connection with them, you are allowing them to be who they are, and you are not making them a necessity, but a part of the tapestry.
  • Communication is vital.  To me, communication is as important as fidelity.  If you are not talking to the person you are sharing your life with, then you lose connection.  In the age of technology we often count our email, Face Book, or texts as communication, but sadly it is not.  E-communication is great for sending quick notes, reminders, etc.. but you should not have arguments, discuss big issues, or crisis using e-communication.  When you sit in the presence of your loved one, you are there with them.  When you show up to communication offer them your full attention. Life is full of distractions, don’t invite them into your relationship.  Set aside time where you talk about your dreams, your ideas, your needs, your desires, your fears, issues within the relationship, things you are grateful for, etc.  Allow communication to be something that is ALWAYS welcomed.   When there is an open invitation to talk to one another, and it is actively engaged, true growth is able to happen.
  • Love unconditionally.  Too often I see clients comparing and contrasting current relationships with old relationships.  Let the person you are with be who they are.  We all have broken pieces.  We all have baggage.  Of course we have to respect our personal boundaries in a relationship, and if communication is open and active discussion about such things becomes possible.  Love the person you are with by truly being there with them.  Don’t just put your cell phones aside, turn them off.  Keep some memories for yourself. Don’t live your relationships online, live it in the world.
  • Be spontaneous.  Life is too short to not have adventure and play.  Stagnation brings negativity.  Shake things up a bit, show the person you are with that you love them.  Leave notes for them around the house, leave a list in their pocket telling them how grateful you are for them, play board games, have great sex, don’t plan life out so much, leave room for play.
  • Relationships end.  “Till death do us part” still means that at some point it is going to end.  Too often we forget how finite time is.  We are not guaranteed any tomorrows,  or even our next breath.  I do say this so that you will live in fear, but more so that you will live in gratitude. At the end of a relationship we often regret not talking things out more clearly, we regret not being more spontaneous, we regret not showing up for fully.  The realization that death exists allows us to be more purposeful with our time.  Say I love you more.  Hold your lovers hand.  Kiss them frequently.  Look into their eyes and really see them, breathe in each moment fully.  If/when it does end, you’ll have countless beautiful memories to look back on in gratitude instead of regret.

I still do relationship readings if necessary.  I will usually only answer questions that will help my client improve themselves within the framework for the relationship.  Taking responsibility for who YOU are allows you to show up more fully, to be more present, and to love more fully.

You can also join me this Thursday on Soul Empowerment Radio (8/147/2014) as I take this conversation a bit deeper.  If you are reading this beyond the show’s air date, all the shows are archived so you can still listen in.

Spiritual Tools: The Journal

The journal.  Some people love them, others find them deeply challenging to keep.  I love keeping a journal.  The journal is sacred space.  It allows us a space to reflect, to come into communion with our intuition, and to catch snapshots of our lives.  Life happens quickly, and having a quite place that we can gather ourselves is necessary–the journal provides this.  I also tell my clients that it is important to keep a pen and paper journal.  I know we live in the age of technology, but with our fancy devices comes a lot of distractions.  From time to time I’ll keep quick notes, or reminders to myself of things that I should write about in my journal, but I love the tangibility of a paper journal.  When we write things out longhand we are also connecting to each word that kisses the pages of our journal.  When we write things out we are also inviting our bodies into this process, we are able to make mistakes, scratch things out, and we tend to not be as polished as we are on our electronic devices.  You can also keep an art journal if you are more connected to the visual realm.

journalingAnother things I tell my clients is that it is not so much about journaling everyday, but it is important to carry your journal with you daily.  Daily access to the journal is giving yourself permission to write when it feels right to do so.  Not having it with you, or leaving it at home puts distance between the intention to write and the action.  Most of us might “want” to, or might be able to remember those insights later… but we also often forget.  I keep my journal at arm distance.  I like to have access to it at the gym, in the grocery store, or when I’m waiting in the car.  I sometimes will just open it up to a blank page and sit.  The blank page is possibility.  I can rest on that page, reflect and energetically fill that page with my thoughts and intentions.  I find that the simple act of opening the journal is entering sacred space.  Things get quite, and my focus is now on the page, which also helps me enter into stillness.  Everyone will have their own ideas surround what a journal is or isn’t.  These are just my thoughts, and my personal connection to the journal.  Feel free to develop your personal connection to it.

What to write?!

The next big question is:  What do I write in my journal?!

Anything and everything you want.  For a while I would keep a separate journal for different areas of my life, and still do to a lesser extent.  I find that keeping my thoughts focused in one space helps to keep me focused in one space.  I write my thoughts, my ideas, my struggles, my intuitive insights, my paranormal experiences, what foods I’m eating, manifesting lists, yoga postures and sequences that I am working on, show topics, drams and interpretations, self readings, tarot card exercises and readings, research..etc.  The list is truly limitless.  The idea is try not to limit yourself.  You can do the “Dear Journal” and write about your day, or you can just allow consciousness to flow in whatever direction it wants to go in.

After making some big life transitions I felt that I needed to come back to center.  I pulled out all of my old journals and began to sift through my personal story, my journey into the spiritual.  I found myself again in those pages.  They gave me a chance to reflect on the reasons I started doing this work, and also allowed me to have gratitude for my evolution along the path.  Journals are our record keepers, they are our friends, and they at some point will become our legacy.

Do you journal?  What do you like journaling about?  If you are not currently keeping a journal, what is your resistance?

You are loved.  You are Beautiful. You are Divine.

Weekend Specials, Radio Show, and Life

rtrbuddhaI hope that everyone is doing well.  Life has been up and down for many (myself included).  Be sure that you are taking time to breath.  Take a few moments each day to be in gratitude for all that life is bringing you–yes, even the struggle.  The struggle that we go through is a teacher, it helps to bring us to our edges, and helps us to initiate change.   Take a moment and just breathe. Place your hands on your heart, and feel the drum of your life beating, moving life force through your very existence.  This is what life is really all about.  Finding a bit of stillness in the chaos.  Don’t get so hung up on the small things.  Allow yourself to have grace, peace and love.  The world will bring its challenges.  Life will be difficult.  Decisions will not be easy… and even in all of this we can find love.  The grass is already green where you are.  Stand in power, stand in love, and let your breath move you.

It is about creating and solidifying our touchstones for truth.  I tune into spirit, and we flow through guided meditations, channeled messages, healing, and spiritual discussion.  I am working out the time and format, and that will be found on the BlogTalk channel.

– I am also getting more active on YouTube, so be sure to check out the Soul Interaction Channel!

****I am going to be hosting classes via Google Hangout.  These will be mini workshops on meditation, channeling, A Course in Miracles, and the Oneness Transmissions.  If  you are interesting in learning more you can email me at:  michael@michaelbrazell.com  and follow my facebook page to get the updates:  SoulIntuitive

Just remember, take some time for you.  Start living your life to the fullest NOW. Stop tiptoeing around your soul journey and start living it.  Trust your intuition, and take the leap!

You are Loved.  You are Beautiful.  You are Divine.
